Hi, thank you for taking the time to Meet Mister Mom. My name is Jay Bartels and I'm a single father of two awesome young daughters. I've been playing the roles of a Single dad and a mother as well for the past 4 years and I think I finally have it figured out now. No complaints here, I cherish every moment of my life and my time with my girls.
Let me tell you a little bit about my experience and my knowledge of the furniture consignment business. I began working in the furniture business in 1983 and I know every aspect of the business from start to finish.
In 1991 I opened my first consignment store in Delray Beach, Florida. By 1993 I had three consignment shops in the West Palm Beach area. We began to build a solid reputation and soon we were selling furniture from the finest homes in the Palm Beaches all the way down to Beautiful Miami Beach.
I would personally visit each home and discuss with our client what we felt each item would resell for, keeping in mind that our goal was to sell it as quickly as possible, thus keeping the selling price attractive to our buyers.
Eventually we began to make connections with realtors, model homes, stores going out of business, estates, auctioneers and on and on.
We soon found ourselves with a world of fine furniture and accessories available to us and just not enough space to display it.
In 1996 I was a buyer/ consignor for Past Perfect Showrooms in Boca Raton, Florida. This store was opened by my uncle in 1979 and it was the Jewel of South Florida. Our client list was a who's who of the areas top athletes, promoters, actors, politicians, famous artists, and the list just goes on and on. People drove for hours to see our new items coming in on a daily basis. This place was jumping and this place was a lot of fun for all of us. Past Perfect expanded later that year and we took over a closed down super market and filled the entire store on consignment in just a matter of weeks. It was crazy!
Our family sold Great Interiors Consignment in 2000 and Past Perfect in 2006. I decided to give myself a breather from the business and in August my girls and I moved here to the Tampa area. It didn't take long before I began to miss the fun and excitement of the business. I soon realized that this area is the perfect place for Mister Mom's Consignment. My daughters are even more excited than I am and we are going to have a blast.
